“Let Me Be As Christ To You”

As we celebrate Catholic Schools Week, I would like to commend you for your dedication to Catholic Education. As parents, your guidance serves as the instrument through which our school teaches and lives the Christian values: Faith, Knowledge, Discipline, and Morals-Dividends for Life. Thank you.

It was wonderful to see so many of you at Ki's last night. It was good to have time to relax and enjoy each other. Thank you to all who supported the SJA dinner. 20% of the food proceeds benefit SJA, but even more importantly, the time to build community was ideal.

Speaking of Ki's- a big thank you to a fantastic group of moms who have been serving lunch to our students every day! They are capably led by Nora Brady and Aimee Monroe. Did you know that we received a check for almost $500 from Ki's as the stipend earned by providing servers through the month of November?

The Academy Open House is this Sunday, January 31st from 8:30-11:30. All are welcome! Academy students attending Sunday morning Mass in their dress school uniform may go to their classroom teacher after Mass to receive a free dress pass that is only valid for Monday, February 1st.

Pick-up procedure: We continue to evaluate our dismissal procedures to ensure student safety. Thank you for your patience and thoughtful suggestions! It is a delicate balance we are trying to achieve: our children's safety, ease of pick up, time for community.... I am trying to get a sense of the "big picture" as I speak with security experts, fencing contractors and more. Please understand that I am working as quickly as I can to come up with possible solutions. For now we will continue with the dismissal procedure we have been using. I do realize that many of you, at times, have appointments and cannot always wait in the carpool line. You are welcome to park your car (I strongly suggest parking in the back!), go to the outer door of the classroom(s) and ask that teacher for the children you are picking up from the academy. These students must remain with you while on campus. Please help us keep our students safe. Thank you.

The Gala Committee is looking for Sponsors and Underwriters to help off-set the cost of the event so that all of the evening's proceeds can go directly to the school. Please visit the website (www.sjagala.org) to learn more about these opportunities and to make your contribution. Every dollar counts towards reducing our school deficit.

Please remember that your commitment tuition form and deposit for the next academic year, 2010-2011, is due this Monday, February 1st. Please contact me if you have any questions or concerns.

If you have a prospective Kindergarten student you must fill out an application and sign up your child for a screening time. Kindergarten screening will take place on Thursday, February 4th. There is a $30.00 screening fee and you must provide proof of age (a copy of either your child's birth certificate or Baptismal certificate). Please contact the office if you have any questions.

Anyone interested in receiving tuition assistance for the next school year needs to pick up applications for assistance in the school office. Every family must follow this process to be considered for receiving assistance.

Electronic re-enrollment with FACTS for next year will begin in early March. If you have any changes in bank accounts, etc., please provide that information to Janet Grimmer. Invoicing for next year will begin at that same time. Please be aware you will be billed at the non-parishioner rate if you did not fulfill the $500.00 donation to the Parish for the last calendar year.

The white monthly family communication envelope will be coming home next week. Please take a moment to make sure that your family volunteer hours are recorded on the back of this envelope. First semester hours will be tallied in February.

Thank you to the many families who have responded to our preschool survey. The results are being evaluated and more information should be available soon.

Please join us for 8:00 Mass this Friday as the 7th grade assists with the Liturgy.
