Happy February! This is Heart Health Month, the month of St Valentine, the beginning of Lent…. During this season, I am reminded of words from Mother Teresa of Calcutta: "The child is God's gift to the family. Each child is created in the special image and likeness of God for greater things-to love and be loved." Such simple, peaceful beautiful, heart-filled words. It is a joy for me to see you live them out each day, to know that your children are your gifts and that you are helping them to grow to love and to know that they are loved.
Thank you for a successful Open House! It was wonderful to see so many of you here and I appreciate the warm welcome you extended to those visiting our campus. Thank you to the Marketing Committee for all the work with the advertising, to the Hospitality Committee for the coffee and treats, to the Student Council for the tours, to the 7th grade and others who assisted with the liturgy, and to all who helped make such a lovely day.
I understand that there are many concerns and questions regarding security, pick up procedures, campus atmosphere and more. I will do my best to share all the information I have to date and hear any further concerns and ideas at the Parent Council Meeting in the morning tomorrow. Please join us. The brief version for those who cannot attend is that I have met with 3 security experts, 2 fence companies, a locksmith and an alarm company so far. I am in the process of gathering proposals and bids for the many different options and then will evaluate with our Advisory Board. For right now, we will continue with what you have known as "rainy day pick up" with a twist. You are welcome to park your car (in the back is suggested) and collect your child from the classroom or to come through the car line and we will bring your child to you. If you have a junior high student, please consider coming closer to 3:00 to give extra locker time. Feel free to gather with your friends at the lunch tables before and/or after pickup. Thank you for your support.
Monday and Tuesday of this week we completed the next phase of our bully prevention program. Our Coordinating Team participated in the initial training program. There is much work to do, but we learned a great deal and will try some new techniques immediately as we continue to prepare for an official kick off.
