It is the season of Lent. During the forty days between Ash Wednesday and Easter Sunday, we spend extra time with Jesus. We remember how he suffered and died to forgive our sins and we give thanks. Prayer is the most important activity of Lent because everything we do depends on God, who always answers prayers. Ash Wednesday is a good day to begin more frequent prayer. Cyndi Peterson has offered to send out a daily reflection during Lent. Email her at: cyndipeterson@msn.com to get on her mailing list. I recommend it! Also, in today's "Why do Catholics do that?" find out why we get ashes on our foreheads on Ash Wednesday.
Please continue safety vigilance with your children. Over the weekend I received a forwarded email from the superintendent of RSF Elementary School District. In it she documented 3 different attempts made by man in a white truck to lure children into his car in Rancho Santa Fe, twice on La Fremontia and once on Paseo Delicias. The occurrences happened at approximately 8:00am, 11:00am and Noon. In the first two attempts, the man actually drove up the driveway, once following the child as he was finishing walking the dog, and later to watch children play and try to wave them to him. Later on Paseo Delicias, he actually pulled over into the bike lane (near El Romero) in an attempt to trap two girls riding toward him on their scooters. This man apparently waves, smiles and alternately beckons them to come to him. His description is as follows Hispanic Male, approximately 30-50 years old, thin but bushy mustache, wears large, aviator style sun glasses. The description of his vehicle: older white pick-up truck, 2 ladders hanging on one side, attached vertically, boxes and gardening supplies in the bed, slightly tinted side windows. The description and actions of this man are eerily similar to the incident involving our student. I have been in contact with the sheriff and we have hired security to patrol our back lot from 2:45-3:15 each day until we are again confident of our children's safety. Again, please do not drop your children off on campus before 7:45 unless you are checking them into daycare and please follow our requested pick up procedures. I will let you know if I hear any updates.

After meeting with the Advisory Board last week, it was decided that we need to do more research before committing to opening a preschool. We will continue moving forward with the hopes of opening, but it will not happen in 2010. Thank you for your interest. I will keep you up-to-date on our progress.
