“Let Me Be As
Christ To You”
So much going on this week!
Thank you to all of you for your time, talent, and
treasure!
The Men’s Prayer
Breakfast occurs
throughout the school year on
the 1st Friday of each month at the parish hall.
Time is 7am to 8am
sharp. Dad’s can drop their children off at St. James Day Care at 7am,
no cost.
The venue is an
opening prayer, a ½ hour
for good food and camaraderie, and then a ½ hour witness from a fellow
parishioner
(or other lay Catholic) on what they did and do to live a Christian
life in
today’s world. Attendees find the Breakfast rewarding because all
relate to the
secular and spiritual, successes and challenges, facing us all. Please contact Jim
Carroll, 858 792-7676, jcarroll@solutionsco.com
to sign up or with questions.
Hot
Lunch Update: Thank
you to Ki’s and our super
organizers, Aimee Monroe and Nora Brady for a very successful start to
our new
hot lunch program. I
have heard only
raves about the food and, of course in the interest of our student’s
happiness
and safety, have conducted my own taste test!
Definitely a winner!
We do need
two more workers to help serve lunches every other Monday from 11:30 to
1:00.
What a great way to get your 30 hours in for the school year! Please
contact
Nora Brady at nbrady21@aol.com
or
Aimee Monroe at aimee@monroe5.com Thank
you. Also, only
students with an active
account can be served an emergency (non-ordered) lunch.
Scrip update
Thank you to all the families who returned their
grocery
registration forms! The support was overwhelming: over 90% of our
school is now
registered for scrip, plus many grandparents and friends, too.
Congratulations
to Kindergarten and 4th grade; both had 100% participation and will
enjoy an
ice cream social on Friday. Fantastic!
We are still happily accepting enrollments. Please see the Scrip flyer
for other important information.
Our SJA Golf
Tournament is October 19, 2009, at Lomas
Santa Fe Country Club. You'll want to act
quickly if you want to
take advantage of our "cash for golfers" recession
buster! A limited number of online
registrations are only
$125 per player and $500 for a foursome. That’s a HUGE
discount
from our usual $175 price. We take all credit or debit cards
through
Paypal so you know your investment is secure. This year, our
hole-in-one
prize is a 2010 Lexus
250H Hybrid so you
won't want to miss your chances by waiting too long. Register
online at http://www.SJAgolf.com
Many thanks to all
who turned in magazine and cookie dough orders today!
ITBS Standardized
Testing: We
will be testing October 13th through October 23rd. Please make every effort
to have your
children in school during those weeks.
Volunteering/Live
Scan: Everyone who
will volunteer in any
capacity with our students must go through the Live Scan process. We have scheduled the Live
Scan company to
come again to our campus on 10/1 from 7-9am.
Remember, you do have the option to pay $300 to fulfill
your volunteer
commitment.
Give the Gift of
Sight Student
Council is sponsoring a drive
to collect old eye and sunglasses to give to children and adults who
need
them. Please send
any donations to
school by 10/16.
Support SJA and the arts!
The San Diego Master Chorale (http://www.sdmasterchorale.org/aboutus.htm)
is performing a From Handel to Halloween concert on
Friday, October 16th
at 7 pm. The Master Chorale will donate 50% of St. James
community ticket
sales to the Academy music and
performing arts program. This
concert is a must-see event because one of our own St. James Academy
alumni,
Carina Kazmierowicz, is making her debut singing with the Master
Chorale.
Carina is the youngest singer ever to be accepted by the Chorale in
its 48
year history. Please contact SJA music teacher Anne Marie
Oldham or SJA
parent Ade Kazmierowicz at home@kazhome.com
for tickets and carpool information.
In
this week’s “Why do Catholics
do that?” find out why we bless ourselves when
entering and leaving church.
