“Let Me Be As Christ To You”

Tradition is a beautiful thing at St James Academy. There are so many very special events that have been shared from year to year. I have been delighted to participate in such experiences as Angel Food Cupcakes to celebrate our Guardian Angels, the Blessing of the Animals, PJ Day in 4th Grade, to name just a few. This week I look forward to the 2nd grade Saints Mass (8am tomorrow) and the Student Council Halloween Carnival. I thank you for all you do to support these traditions and I invite you to join us this week!

June 2009 to June 2010 has been designated as The Year for Priests. This provides a wonderful opportunity to help your children learn more about the priesthood. It is also a time to thank our priests for all they do for all of us. Some ideas: As a family, you might “adopt a priest” to pray for by choosing a special prayer that you say for him every day. Send a card to let him know your intentions. Or consider sending a thank-you note to the priests who baptized each member of your family. We look forward to special visits from our priests and seminarians to our classrooms this year.

Parents of SJA boys, I need your help. You may have heard that we are having a real problem in the boy’s bathroom. I have had the plumber out multiple times and have spent a significant amount of money to try to correct the problem. The issue is that boys are shoving things down into the pipes. I have addressed it with them and I would appreciate you taking the time to do so as well. Respect of our facility is all part of respect of self and others.

Parent Teacher Conference Sign-up Sheets are available on a table outside the Day Care Room through this Friday, October 30th. Also, there is day care as usual on Parent Teacher Conference days until 5:30 for St. James Academy students only.

Please stop by this year's Halloween Carnival Talent Show for a uniquely SJA entertainment experience! Students from Grades 4-8 have prepared acts on their own time to perform, including bands, singing, instrumental solos, comedy, acting and dancing.  They will perform on an outdoor stage during the Halloween Carnival.  The show will start at 12:30 opened by Student Council and proceed in grade order starting with acts from 4th grade.  Mrs. Oldham is coordinating the show with huge support from youth minister Pat Villa, a team of parents led by Mary Larkin and Christine Denny, and Student Council.

NO PIZZA for lunch this Friday. Students may bring a lunch from home or purchase hot dogs or hamburgers with their tickets at the Halloween Carnival.

Please review the Halloween costume reminders in last week’s newsletter.

As in the past, SJA will take any leftover Halloween candy you may have (or wish to get out of the house) to donate to Mission Circle. They bring the candy to schools/churches/communities in poverty stricken areas of Mexico. Please send candy in to the office by Friday, November 6th. Thank you.

Please remember that Box Tops Halloween sheets are due by Friday morning to qualify for a carnival ticket. Also in today’s flyers online you will find a Thanksgiving collection sheet. This is an easy, fun way to raise money for our school! We will distribute an Elephant Bar Kids Meal certificate for each completed sheet.

Don’t forget to submit your gift card orders!  This is a great time to pick up the gift cards you will need for your Thanksgiving shopping, including the supplies you need from Michael’s so your kids can create fabulous one-of-a-kind centerpieces for the table.  The next deadline is November 9, for delivery on November 13.  Order online at www.shopwithscrip.com, or print out an old-style order form on the website, under Fundraising.  Tuition credits being earned.  Get yours, now!

Need a gift, but not sure what to get?  SJA Scrip Bucks now available!  This is a great choice for teacher gifts or for others that attend SJA – give Scrip Bucks, and the recipient can redeem for whichever gift cards they would like from any of our offered vendors.  Available in $25 and $50 denominations.  Questions?  Email sjascrip@gmail.com and the scrip fairy will reply promptly.

Anyone whose children did not pick up magazine/cookie dough prizes last Tuesday but did receive a prize ticket, please email Joanna Costello ASAP if you have not already done so.

Lost and Found drawers are still overflowing. Items will be bagged up and removed as of Friday afternoon.

Just a reminder to push your clocks back this Saturday night.

This Friday ends the first quarter. Report cards will go home next Friday, November 6th.

Please note that these items are on line today: Parents in Prayer, Halloween ticket pre-order flyer, Thanksgiving Box Tops Sheet
